$1 Rides Within Our Expanded Kimball Junction Zone...

100% Of The Fare Donated To Local Non-Profits.

So that 100% of the Fare is donated to a local non-profit, we are passing along the Credit Card Processing Fees from STRIPE.

STRIPE charges $0.30 per transaction and 2.9% for their processing. This brings the total fare to $1.34.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this service being subsizied by the City, County, or State?

No aspect of Mountain Transportation Network is subsidized by any money from the City, County, or State.

What is the Service/Coverage area?

The "Ride for a Cause" service is an extension of the Mountain Transportation Network service. For the "$1 Rides" your ride must begin and end within the designated service area, which includes Summit Park, Pinebook, Tanger Outlets, Bear Hollow Village, Sun Peak, Silver Springs, Trailside, Silver Creek, Glenwild, and the Kimball Junction/Redstone area. Rides that begin or end outside of this area will default to our standard pricing.

Unlike the Kimball Junction Circular which just operates on a "loop", Ride For a Cause offers Door-To-Door Service.

What are the Operating Hours?

Our initial operating hours will be seven days a week from 8:00AM until 11:00PM... which is currently one hour earlier and one hour later than the hours of operation for the Kimball Junction Circular.

How many vehicles are there in the Network?

As this is a new service, we are actively working to add more vehicles onto our Network. Due to the expected popularity of this service, there will more than likely be times when there are no vehicles available due to all participating vehicles being on a ride or having a prior obligation. If this happens, please try again in a few minutes. We anticipate this being a growing pain of a soon-to-be popular service.

Is this service really only $1 for each ride?

Yes! We initially thought about offering this service free of charge, similar to that of the Kimball Junction Circular, but our initial concept (when we submitted a bid for Park City's Microtransit RFP) was to have a "pay it forward" component. We love our community and want to give back. We hope you'll agree with our philosophy.

Please note, the drivers work for 100% gratuities (since the $1 is being donated to a local non-profit)... so please take care of them.

I thought the fare was $1... why am I being charged $1.33?

As is the case any time you use a Credit Card to make a purchase, the Business Owner has to pay a fee to their Credit Card Processor. Our software provider uses STRIPE, which asses a fee of $0.30 per transaction + 2.9% of the total amount. In this case, since the ride is $1... you would then add $0.029 + $0.30... bringing the total to $1.33.

We have chose to pass along the Credit Card Processing Fees to the Rider, so that the Non-Profits receive 100% of the $1 Fare.

Please keep in mind, that since we are giving 100% of the Fare to a Non-Profit and the Passenger is paying the Credit Card Fees, we truly are making NOTHING. All we ask is that you take care of your Driver (since obviously if we make nothing then we cannot pay an hourly or percentage of the fare)... and consider using one of the participating companies if you need a pre-arranged ride.

At $1 Per Ride... How are you making money?

We aren't. We simply want to use this promotion as a way to show the County (and City) that the Local "For Hire" Community can come together and EFFECTIVELY run a program that benefits the Community.

All we ask is that you consider using MTN for your other "On Demand" rides (like going to Dinner or a Concert at Deer Valley), as those rides are priced based on our Fixed Zone Prices... or one of our participating "For Hire" Companies when you need to travel to/from the Salt Lake City International Airport.

How long will this promotion of $1 rides last?

Our $1 Fares within our expanded Kimball Area Zone will go through at least the end of July 2018. We will evaluate the response, listen to feedback and comments from both our Driver Community and the Public, and determine if the rate will be extended further at that time period.

Why do I need to provide a credit card when registering?

The Ride For a Cause service is an extension of the Mountain Transportation Network, which uses an app to pair a ride with a driver... just like with Uber and Lyft. Our app was not designed to give "free" rides, so we have to work within the framework of the app. In addition, since the rides within the qualifying zone are only $1 but fares outside of that area are our standard zone prices, it helps to facilitate those ride requests. Unlike Uber and Lyft however, you can opt to pay the driver with cash and do not have to pay the $1 on the credit card on your account.

How do I know when I will be picked up?

Unlike the Kimball Juncation Circular that requires you to stand outside, sometimes in bad weather and "wave your hand" to the van when it eventually passes by, Ride For a Cause uses an app that works very similar to Uber and Lyft. From witin the app you can request your ride and once paired with a vehicle you will be able to track it's progress on the map within the app.

What if I don't care for the Driver or there is an issue?

At the conclusion of every ride you will be able to "rate" your Driver and provide comments/feedback. In addition, unlike Uber and Lyft, if you would not like to be paired with that Driver going forward you can select that option. In addition, if you really like your Driver, you can also make them a "Preferred" or "Favorite" Driver -- and as long as they are online at the time of your request, your request will be sent to them first.

Can I request a ride in advance or at a specific time?

At this time, the service is "On Demand" only and cannot be reserved in advance. This is something we may enable in the future.

What if I need to travel to Main Street or another area outside of the "$1 Zone"?

If your travel begins or ends outside of our "$1 Ride Zone" then the fare will default to our normal "Fixed Rate Zone Prices".

What type of vehicles do you use?

We utilize only Commercially Insured Vehicles that are operated by properly permitted and licensed to operate in both Park City and Salt Lake City. The majority of the vehicles will be Full Size Luxury SUVs, but there may also be vans, sedans, and other mini-vans on our network.

Do you perform background checks on your drivers?

The safety of our Passengers is our highest priority. Only those that have not had any major moving violations in the past three years and that have passed/obtained an Salt Lake City Airport Badge (which involves a fingerprint background check with the FBI and TSA) will be allowed to provide rides.

Is there an age requirement to be a passenger?

There is not. We do require the passenger to have a smart phone and utilize our app.

I have suggestions, comments, or feedback... who do I contact?

We love feedback and want to hear from the public. Please direct all communications to us via email at info@mountaintransportationnetwork.com.
